Navigating The Holidays With a Parent in a Senior Living Community

|

Make the most of the holidays by getting everyone together

Celebrating the holidays with a parent in senior living doesn’t have to feel different or challenging. It’s easy to celebrate, even with multiple generations, in a way that makes everyone feel included and loved.

Plan A Party Of Your Own

Bring the party to them! This could be as simple as planning a few hours for the whole family to get together, or spreading it out over a few days to collaborate with out of town travelers. Some communities have a special room dedicated just for this type of situation.

Bring In Homemade Food

There’s nothing better than the homemade version. Making your loved one’s favorite dishes (or even making them large enough to share with other residents) is a great way to warm hearts and bring a smile to everyone’s faces.

Continue Traditions

Don’t want to miss out on holiday cookies? You don’t have to. Spectrum Retirement Communities bake holiday cookies ahead of time so you and your family can relax and enjoy the fun decorating (and eating!) them together.

Holiday-Centered Activities

Many senior living communities offer a variety of activities throughout the holidays including a celebration of the holiday season, Christmas, Hanukkah and other special traditions. At Spectrum, programming is open to family and friends to join in on the fun. Some special holiday parties involve children of the families as well as local school and church children or choirs. Activities also include making holiday cards for friends and family, and even holiday-themed scavenger hunts!

Holiday Bazaar

Spectrum communities also host a Holiday Bazaar with local vendors selling their goods and opportunities for residents and families to sell or purchase homemade items. This allows residents to shop for the holidays and have their gifts wrapped and shipped with very little trouble.
